Welcome!

This is just a quick hi to everybody taking part in the 31 Days Challenge, as well as anybody else who happens to be reading. It's been far too long since I embarked on any sort of halfway serious writing project, so when I read about the challenge I decided it might be a good opportunity to get my backside in gear and getting back to doing something I used to love.

We all have films we love in spite of the bad reviews, and often in spite of our own better judgement. You know the type - the kind you always want to catch and watch but never actually want to be caught watching. There's a peculiar joy to these guilty pleasures (or unappreciated gems, if you'd rather), and it comes from a peculiarly deep place; the opinions we hold most ferociously tend to be those on which we're challenged the most often.

For the next 31 days (and maybe beyond), I'm going to be looking at a bunch of films that various people have loathed, whether critics, the viewing public or occasionally just my nearest and dearest. Some will be from my personal favourites list, but some will be completely new to me. Quite a few won't be entirely unfamiliar, because I've previously given up on them after as little as ten minutes. I'm going to try and look past the bad press and my own prejudices to see if I can find any artistic merit in them - at the very least, I want to try and to see if I can have something resembling a good time.

Please, join me on October 1st - everyone's welcome and the popcorn's free!
